I don’t have that much time to go band searching-and I can’t stand the current ‘Indie Rock’ scene. Groups like Kaiser Cheifs, The Strokes, The Killer’s, Arctic Monkey’s are corny (IMO). I’m looking for some new-ish groups that take inspiration from groups like At The Drive-In, Drive Like Jehu, Glassjaw etc…Any recomendations?

Deftones
Helmet

Quicksand
No Knife
Braid
Queens of the Stone Age
Murder City Devils
Mars Volta
Well, the band split into Sparta (who I’m not very high on) and the Mars Volta (Omar and Cedric’s band). The Mars Volta is very progressive, very good. I’d get Francis the Mute.
Also, I’d check out Polvo, Todays Active Lifestyles is a really good record. You might like Unwound also, maybe Fugazi’s later stuff. The Argument (their last record) is brilliant. Also maybe some of the middle Sonic Youth stuff (ie Goo or Daydream Nation).
On the heavier side you may want to check out Godhead Silo or this lesser known group called the Pope.
I haven’t heard a ton of Drive Like Jehu, but Here Come Rome Plows is an awesome tune.
these groups may not all sound like at the drive-in (except for the mars volta, cedric and omar) but i enjoy them and you might to. if your a student i use to check out bands i am unfamiliar with.
the mars volta
the blood brother
achille lauro (only on itunes or search for their myspace)
mewithoutyou
wolfmother (i love the retro sound)
from monuments to masses
menomena
radio vago (omar helped produce this album but they are no longer together)
thats about all i have off of the top of my head. one thing you can do is go to last.fm and enter an artist and they will tell you what they consider to be similar artist.
the singer from at the drive-in is in mars volta now.
Ok. the closest your ganna get to ATDI in cursive… the mars volta is obviously really close.. but i feel that cursive is alittle closer.. if you are really into atdi and tmv. i suggest you check out the fallowing bands.
Portugal the man
circa survive
the burning room-cedriks old band
the sound of animals fighting
anatomy of a ghost
sparta
sleepercar
The morakestra
the only band on the list i don’t feel all that great about is sleepercar.. but it’s former members and i have to admit they deserve credit.
